How is Imatinib Oral Route administered?
Imatinib oral route is administered by taking the medicine with a tall glass of water and a meal to help prevent stomach irritation. The tablet should be swallowed whole and not broken or crushed. If the patient cannot swallow the tablet, it can be dissolved in a glass of water or apple juice. For the 100 mg tablet, dissolve it in 2 ounces (1/4 cup) of water or juice, and for the 400 mg tablet, dissolve it in 7 ounces (about 1 cup) of water or juice. Stir with a spoon and drink immediately after the tablet is dissolved. It is advised not to eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while using this medicine, as grapefruit and grapefruit juice may cause the blood levels of the medicine to be higher than normal. In case of contact with broken or crushed tablets, the skin should be washed with soap and water right away.
