How is Mometasone Inhalation dosed?

The dosage of mometasone inhalation depends on the patient's age and medical history. For preventing an asthma attack, the dosage instructions are as follows:

  • Adults and children 12 years of age and older: One puff once a day, in the evening for 1 to 2 weeks. Each puff contains 220 micrograms (mcg) of mometasone. The dose may be increased as needed, but usually not more than 440 mcg per day.
  • Children 4 to 11 years of age: One puff once a day, in the evening. Each puff contains 110 mcg of mometasone.
  • Children younger than 4 years of age: Use and dose must be determined by your doctor. For patients who have received oral corticosteroids, the dosage instructions are similar, but the dose may be increased up to 880 mcg per day for adults and children 12 years of age and older.

What is the dosage form of Mometasone Inhalation?

Mometasone inhalation is available in two dosage forms:

  • Aerosol powder: For preventing an asthma attack, the recommended dosage is one puff once a day, in the evening for adults and children 12 years of age and older. Each puff contains 220 micrograms (mcg) of mometasone. For children 4 to 11 years of age, the dosage is one puff once a day, in the evening. Children younger than 4 years of age should consult their doctor for the appropriate dose.
