How is Ritodrine dosed?

The dosage for ritodrine depends on the dosage form:

  1. Extended-release capsules (oral):
  • Adults: In the first 24 hours after stopping intravenous ritodrine, the initial dose may be up to 40 milligrams (mg) every 8 hours. After that, the usual dose is 40 mg every 8 to 12 hours. The doctor may prescribe oral ritodrine until delivery or until the 37th week of pregnancy.
  1. Tablets (oral):
  • Adults: In the first 24 hours after stopping intravenous ritodrine, the initial dose may be up to 10 milligrams (mg) every 2 hours. After that, the usual dose is 10 to 20 mg every 4 to 6 hours. The doctor may prescribe oral ritodrine until delivery or until the 37th week of pregnancy.
  1. Injection:
  • Adults: The recommended dose is 50 to 350 micrograms per minute, injected into a vein.
