What is Minipill used for?
The minipill, also known as the progestin-only pill, is primarily used as a form of birth control. It contains the hormone progestin and works by thickening cervical mucus, thinning the lining of the uterus, and preventing sperm from reaching the egg. It may also prevent the ovaries from releasing an egg. However, it is important to note that about half of the people using the minipill may still ovulate. To be effective in preventing pregnancy, the minipill must be taken every day at the same time. It does not protect against sexually transmitted infections, so practicing safer sex is recommended. Additionally, the minipill may be used to reduce heavy or painful periods or treat estrogen dermatitis.
